Prime Video India has entered a new front in reality TV with The Traitors India, which we present to you today. Set in the grand setting of a royal palace in Jaisalmer, the show brings to you a thrilling format which is a mix of mystery, betrayal and social dynamics which we have not seen before in Indian reality content. The series went live on June 12, 2025, and new episodes drop every Thursday at 8 PM.
Karan Johar at the Helm
Leading off is the eminent filmmaker and talk show host Karan Johar, who brings to the table his distinctive touch, humour and stage presence. Known for his skill in sparking debate and emotion, Johar is not just a host; he is a master of mayhem. Also, it was revealed that betrayal is a theme that very much plays into his personal experiences, which adds a raw and interesting dimension to his role in the series.

A Star-Studded Line-Up
The stage is set for 20 competitors from all walks of life which including actors, influencers, musicians and athletes. In the group are Karan Kundrra, Uorfi Javed, Jannat Zubair, Apoorva Mukhija, Maheep Kapoor, Raftaar, and Raj Kundra. This diverse group is in a constant struggle, marked by a lack of trust and fragile alliances.

In each game, the players enter blind to the identity of the traitor contestants that are privately chosen to betray and eliminate the others, which we term “faithfuls”. With the grand sum of Rs 1 crore up for grabs, all are out to win, but only the very crafty or the very careful will live to see the end.
Rules of the Game
The game plays out over many days in which the group of players teams up to finish tasks and build up the prize pool. But each night, the traitors play into the elimination of one player. Also, at the end of each day, the group puts in a vote to kick out a member who they think may be a traitor. What adds to the tension is the use of shield tokens that some players may have, which protect them from elimination. Also, there is the twist that traitors can recruit new members into their fold if they lose one.
Continue to expel are thought to be traitors or else end the game, which in turn sees the prize pool go to the deceivers.
Anticipation and Impact
The show has generated a lot of talk on social media, which has seen audiences praise its exciting concept, grand visuals and Karan Johar’s magnetic hosting. Viewers have also drawn comparisons to a high-tension game of chess in which every play is key and no one is what they appear to be.
In a mix of suspense and celebrity drama, which also includes smart storytelling elements, The Traitors India has set a new bar for Indian reality shows.
