Early Life and Background
Mahima was born on May 7, 1953, in Cuttack, Odisha. From a respected Odia family, which was also well established, he had access to many opportunities right from a young age. Though at that time it was the norm for his peers to go into government service, he instead chose out of the box, to venture into business.
From as far back as I can remember, in his school days, Mishra showed signs of great leadership. He was the President of the Students’ Union at Christ College and also at MS Law College. Academically, he obtained a Master’s degree in Arts and a Bachelor’s in Law, which in turn gave him business acumen and strategic thinking.
Rise as a Business Tycoon
In 1978, at the age of 25, Mahimanda Mishra founded Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL), which at the time was a group of 15 people. What began as a small labour supply business for Paradip Port grew into one of India’s leading logistics and stevedore companies.

During his tenure, which was very visionary, OSL took it from stevedoring to a range of different fields which included customs house agency, vessel chartering, warehousing, inland transport, mining logistics and beyond. The company ended up becoming a multi-sector conglomerate which dabbled in education, hospitality, real estate, manufacturing and automotive distribution.

Mishra was at the forefront of the modern-day development of Odisha’s port logistics and industry. His efforts played a key role in improving performance at main ports like Paradip and Gopalpur. Also, his company, which was known for its professional approach and dependability, became the first choice of many large-scale industrial players in India.
His award-winning work in business and infrastructure development, which also included the maritime and logistics fields, recognised him for transforming regional ports into world-class logistics hubs and also for the creation of jobs for thousands.
Family and Personal Life
Mahamandana Mishra is the wife of Minati Mishra. They have two sons, Chandan and Charchit Mishra, who have joined the family business and taken up leadership roles within OSL. Charchit, in particular, has been very much into core logistics operations and strategic projects of the company.

The Mishra family is a very large and powerful industrial family in Odisha. May be private, but they are known for uniting in the growth of the business. Also, they did not do many public appearances, but as a family, they are very tight and supportive, which they use in the success of their business empire.
Legal Challenges and Controversies
Despite his professional success, Mishra has had his share of controversy. His name came up in the middle of a business rival’s legal issues and also in that of financial matters. He was arrested in a high-profile murder case, which later saw his release on bail. Also, his son got into legal issues in a separate case, which was that of bribery and port-related matters.

As in 2025, Mahimananda Mishra’s net worth is reported to be of the order of 10,000 crore, which also makes him one of the richest in East India. Also, his company OSL is a proof of his focus, vision and strategic skills.
