The Madhya Pradesh cricket team has an elite status in the Ranji Trophy, with a storied past of producing great cricketers. Since the age of the Holkar team, it is now under the aegis of captain Aditya Shrivastava and former Indian cricketer Chandrakant Pandit as the head coach. Players play their home matches in Holkar Stadium and have equally won five Ranji Trophy titles.

Notable Cricketers from Madhya Pradesh
1. Syed Mushtaq Ali

One of India’s earliest cricketing icons, Syed Mushtaq Ali was a right-handed opening batsman and a skilled all-rounder. He made history by becoming the first Indian to score a Test century on foreign soil. Throughout his career, he played over 200 first-class matches, maintaining a batting average of 35, and appeared in 11 Test matches, averaging 32. In his honor, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) introduced the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His contributions to Indian cricket were worthwhile enough for him to receive the Padma Shri in 1964.
2.Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi

Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi was renowned for his charismatic leadership; he was an epic right-handed batsman who also bowled right-arm medium-fast. With a long innings of first-class cricket behind him, he had been involved with well above 300 matches, averaging 33 with the bat, appointed captain of the Indian team at 21, was among the best fielders of his time. In addition to cricketing feats, he hit media headlines for his involvement in the blackbuck poaching case and family connection with Bollywood. He was awarded the Arjuna Award and Padma Shri for his contribution toward Indian cricket.
3. Amay Khurasiya would buff left-handed batsman

, and right-arm slowbowler. He represented India in ODIs. He played twelve One Day Internationals with an average of 14. However, he had a stronger domestic career, playing in 119 first-class matches with batting averages of 40. After retiring from the game, he took to coaching and is now a Level 3-certified coach of Madhya Pradesh.
4. The specialist leg-spinner Narendra Hirwani

Had a marvelous career in domestic and international cricket. He represented Madhya Pradesh and Bengal at the domestic level and played 17 Test matches and 18 ODIs for India, with bowling averages of 30 and 31, respectively. Later, he transitioned into coaching and took on the role of Director of Cricket for the Nepal National Cricket Team.
5. Chandrakant Pandit

An important figure in Indian cricket, Chandrakant Pandit has been a former wicketkeeper-batsman. He has represented India in 5 Test matches and 36 ODIs, averaging 24 in Tests and 20 in ODIs. Pandit went on to become one of the successful coaches in the Indian circuit after retiring as a player, guiding Vidarbha to their maiden Ranji Trophy title win, while later taking Madhya Pradesh to their first Ranji crown. He was also the head coach of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL and the chairman of the All India Junior Selection Committee.
6. Naman Ojha

Naman Ojha, a naturally gifted wicketkeeper-batsman, never really got to establish himself at a higher level of cricket and therefore only played one Test, one ODI and two T20Is for India. However, he was one of the more regular members to be in the India A teams. Naman Ojha made his Test debut in 2015 but was unable to achieve any high standards. His career suffered more due to the presence of MS Dhoni in the Indian team. In the IPL, he played for Delhi Daredevils, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals.
7. Ishwar Pandey

Ishwar Pandey is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who shone in the Ranji Trophy season 2012-13 as the leading wicket-taker.He played 30 first-class matches, averaging 42 with the ball. He was a regular pick for India A and was selected for India’s 2014 tour of New Zealand, but unfortunately, he never got the chance to make his international debut. In the IPL, he played for Chennai Super Kings and Rising Pune Supergiants.
8. Rajat Patidar

A promising young right-handed batsman and occasional wicketkeeper, Rajat Patidar has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket. He has played over 50 first-class matches, amassing around 3,800 runs at an average of 45. Though he was selected for India’s squad against New Zealand, he is yet to make his international debut. Patidar made headlines in the IPL when he joined Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as an injury replacement. His impressive performances quickly established him as one of the emerging stars in Indian cricket.
9. Venkatesh Iyer

An all-rounder, Venkatesh Iyer is a left-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler known for his adaptability in various batting positions. He plays for Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket and was included as a net bowler for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. He later made his international debut against New Zealand. In T20Is, he has a batting average of 29 and a bowling average of 15. He has played 10 first-class matches so far. His IPL performances have been noteworthy, particularly for Kolkata Knight Riders, where he was instrumental in leading them to the 2021 IPL final and was named an emerging player.
10. Avesh Khan

A promising right-arm fast bowler, Avesh Khan first gained recognition as a member of India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2016. He made his senior team debut in 2022 and has since played 8 T20Is, averaging 27 with the ball. Known for his pace, he has clocked speeds up to 149 kmph. In the IPL, he has been a key player for Delhi Capitals and has played 27 first-class matches, maintaining a bowling average of 28. With youth and talent on his side, he remains a bright prospect for Indian cricket.
