Early Life and Background

Chamari Atapattu (born February 9, 1990, in Gokarella, Sri Lanka) is one of the main vessels in women’s cricket. As an aggressive high player and a captain, she has been a key member of the Sri Lankan national team for as long as she made her first international appearance in 2009. Standing 1.70 m (5 ft 7 in) tall, she has always demonstrated herself to be a top-class batsman and a never-say-die finisher at the end of the 50-over innings.

Cricketing Career

Chamari made her international debut on June 15, 2009, and for that matter quickly proved her as a real asset to the playing group. She primarily bats from the side that is not the side that is the dominant side, however like other bowlers she also bowls an off-break right arm delivery which shows a multi-faceted spin bowling approach that can be useful in games. Her ability to bowl amongst the elite world spinners as well as perform well at this intensity of bowling can contribute to her consistent performance in scoring runs when one of the top Sri Lanka players is to be found.

In fact Chamari’s game has been highly criticised for its wholly aggressive style of play and her bold game playing style . Its leadership skills have earned her the captaincy of the Sri Lankan women’s cricket team and made her a role model and an inspiration to the next generation of cricketers.

Notable Achievements

Her most noteworthy performance occurred at the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup when she hit a famous 178 in the match against Australia. This inning is still one of the highest innings by a single in the history of Women’s One Day Internationals and is also one of the most wonderful innings in the history of women’s cricket.

Chamari played in national and international leagues, accumulating experience and being exposed to an international environment. Her capacity to deliver consistently under duress and be captain of a team in a match is a considerable benefit to a large number of T20 leagues in the world.

Family and Personal Life

Chamari is generally seen to keep her private life private and there is not so much public data on her family history and ties. She is dedicated to her cricketing career and has already been showing the way forward to the future generation of women’s cricket players, with sheer determination and love for the game.
