David Warner, the “dynamite opener” from Australia, has been the fulcrum of the side for a little more than a decade. With a reputation of outrageous batting and manic run-scoring, he boasts of a staggering list of centuries in all the three formats of the game: Test, ODIs, and T20Is. His ability to attack the bowler from the very first ball and to play long innings has placed him among the greatest opening batsmen of all time in the history of cricket.
Growing up in Sydney, Warner’s talent was there for all to see from a young age. Playing for Eastern Suburbs, he moved swiftly up the ranks of the domestic circuit, having garnered a reputation for his capability to really hurt attacks with attacking stroke play. His entry into international cricket consolidated the growing reputation of a batsman dangerous enough to take on any bowling attack.
Warner is today recognized as one of the most prolific century-makers in the history of international cricket. The record he has made especially in Tests and ODIs bears witness to his consistency, fighting spirit, and scarcely believable batting ability.
David Warner’s Test Cricket Centuries
As of now, Warner has played 110 Test matches, accumulating 8,651 runs. He has scored 26 centuries in this format, with his highest score being an unbeaten 335 against Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in 2019. Warner takes pride in being the first Australian to score an opening-day Test century before lunch, which he scored against Pakistan in 2017.
Another highlight in the career of Warner was double hundred scored on his 100th Test match; an extraordinary achievement which made him the second Australian to have done so. Additionally, he has three times scored centuries in both innings of a Test match; so much for evidence of consistency.
