Ishita Rathi has achieved for herself by getting the 8th position in the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2021. Her marvelous success also earned recognition from the Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, who lauded her for bringing glory to the Delhi Police Department, which is where both her parents work.
Early Life and Education

She was born on October 19, 1994, in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. Ishita was brought up in a family which is zealously public service oriented. Her father Iqbal Rathi is a Head Constable in Delhi Police, while her mother Meenakshi Rathi is actually working as an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI). Ishita’s uncle is a government officer in the CBI, and her brother is also preparing for the UPSC examination.
Ishita completed her early education at DAV Public School in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. She pursued her undergraduate degree in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College (LSR), Delhi University. Later, she obtained a Master’s degree in Economics from the Madras School of Economics, Chennai.
Path to UPSC Success

It wasn’t an easy road for Ishita to success because it required repeated attempts at UPSC – she gave this exam thrice and twice did not qualify. In third and final attempts that year, however, she earned rank number 8 in the 2021 exam when she studied independently without the help of coaching classes. As an optional subject in UPSC, Ishita chose Economics as it goes with her education background.
This is followed up by a well-organized plan for studies with NCERT books and standard UPSC study materials, such as :
Indian Polity by M. Laxmikanth
A Brief History of Modern India by Spectrum
Indian Economy by Nitin Singhania.
Ethics, Integrity & Aptitude by Subba Rao
Internal Security and Disaster Management by Ashok Kumar.
Ishita gave emphasis to newspapers and current affairs in the preparation strategy, especially The Hindu and Yojana Magazine. She thus pursues both.
The motivation and inspiration might be:
Her parents were devotees in the field of public service, and that is what inspired Ishita to join IAS. Watching them in their police uniforms turned her toward society in a better way. She now feels that IAS is a channel to bring a change, especially in areas like women and child empowerment.
Study Strategy and UPSC Advice

For aspirants preparing for the UPSC exam, Ishita suggests:
Understanding the basics through NCERT textbooks
Reading newspapers daily to stay updated on current affairs
Using standard reference books recommended by toppers
Making concise notes and revising regularly
Setting realistic study goals instead of focusing on study hours
She also emphasizes the importance of self-confidence and surrounding oneself with positive influences during preparation.
Recognition and Future Goals

After securing 8th rank, Ishita was honored at the Delhi Police Headquarters by Commissioner Rakesh Asthana. She received a memento for her outstanding achievement, representing both her family and the Delhi Police force in a positive light.
