Sabitri Chatterjee was born on 21 February 1937 in Comilla, Bangladesh. She was brought up in a middle-class family and had a strong inclination towards acting since childhood. Savitri Chatterjee came into the spotlight of cinema in the early fifties with her debut movie “Pasher Bari” which was released in 1952. The movie was inspired by a few script ideas by Premendra Mitra. The success of this movie brought her some recognition and made her one of the most in-demand actresses working in Bengali films real quick.

She starred in numerous iconic films, working with legendary actors such as Uttam Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee. Some of her most celebrated films include:
