Abir Chatterjee: Chronicle of an Artist’s Talent and Dedication


Abir Chatterjee is a distinguished Indian film actor, famous for his amazing works in the Bengali film industry. Abir Chatterjee was born on November 18, 1980, in Kolkata, West Bengal, in an academically conventional family. His father, Phalguni Chatterjee, was a History professor at Jadavpur University, while his mother, Rumki Chatterjee, was a teacher. Ever since childhood, Abir embraced deep interests in literature and drama, despite that academically all his temperaments were towards the earning of Higher First Class degrees.

He had his schooling from South Point School, Kolkata, and later on, completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Jadavpur University. In his second year of graduation, his passion for acting made him join the theatre group Nandikar so as to sharpen his acting skills.


Career Beginnings and Breakthrough
Abir’s acting career began in 2004, with television serials. He was reasonably well-acclaimed for his role in Saswata Chatterjee and then made his film debut in 2009 with the movie Cross Connection.

However, his big break arrived in 2010 when he played the titular role in Byomkesh Bakshi.The movie went on to become a massive hit, and his portrayal of the renowned detective was immensely appreciated, making him an instant household name.

Rise to Stardom
Fuelled by the success of Byomkesh, Abir went on to keep people spellbound with films like Aborto, Hemlock Society, and Chatushkon. The actor had a diverse versatility in his character portrayals.

He appeared in Haami, a film that was released in the year 2018 in which he was cast for the character Apu. It showed the essence of childhood friendships and bonds within the families and was, therefore, very much well received by both critics as well as audiences.


Personal Life and Interests
Abir Chatterjee married a woman by the name of Nandini Chatterjee, a senior executive at a multinational company in the country. The couple has two children, a son called Aadidev and a daughter named Mayurakshi.

Besides acting, he takes active interest in music and has even sung in some of his films, including the mega hit Diana Tomake Chai from Gangster.

Awards and Recognitions
Abir Chatterjee has been awarded several prizes for his outstanding performances. He won the BFJA Award for Best Actor (Male) twice: once in 2013 for Aborto and again in 2018 for Drishtikone. He had also bagged the Best Actor tag from North Carolina Film Awards for his role in Rajkahini.
