Ashish Nehra & Rushma Nehra: Love, Family, and Life Beyond Cricket
Born on April 29, 1979, in Sadar Bazaar, Delhi Cantonment, Nehra hails from a Hindu Jat background and was an amazing left-arm fast medium bowler. His cricketing career started during the days of Rajdhani College, where he also trained at the famous Sonnet Club of Delhi. Nehra shot into the limelight on the ODI platform during the 2003 World Cup against England, taking six wickets for just 23 runs.Off of the cricket field, Nehra’s life emerged as a beautiful journey through and through.
In 2002 during the England tour of the Indian team, Rushma, an England-based artisan of Gujarati origin, met. There was an instantaneous connection when they first met at The Oval, which later blossomed into love. After courting for several years, the couple got married on April 2, 2009.
Rushma Nehra, born on May 10, 1983, is a British citizen and a loving housewife. She stands 5 feet 6 inches tall. She is a follower of Hinduism, and family bonds mean a lot to her. Though living a reserved life away from public glare, Rushma has always been a charming support for Ashish, through his successes and failures in cricket, even in his coaching career.
Ashish and Rushma have been blessed with two beautiful children, Aarush and Ariana Nehra, who are the center of their world. Rushma has always been the rock, taking care of the household and raising their children while Ashish played hard to strike a balance between international cricket and the later coaching responsibilities.
Ashish retired from all formats of cricket in November 2017, with his final match being a T20I against New Zealand at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Ground. His career included achievements such as being part of India’s victorious squads in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2011 Cricket World Cup, although he didn’t play in the latter’s final match. In the IPL, he played key roles for franchises like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, earning recognition for his performances.
Today, while Nehra may have stepped away from active cricket, his legacy remains strong — as does the quiet but powerful presence of Rushma Nehra, the woman behind his success.
