SRK has been seen many times smoking at social events and even during the shoots on film sets. Being a health-conscious individual and having a huge following among young people, he had confessed in a series of interviews that he had struggled to stop smoking. He had even made a public statement and said, “I can’t act if I don’t smoke,” which indicated how well entrenched the habit was in his life.
2. Ranbir Kapoor
A talented actor who has appeared in films such as Rockstar and Barfi, Ranbir Kapoor has also taken over the headlines with his smoking. Although he has attempted to quit several times, the actor admits that quitting was one of the most difficult things he ever quit on. Discussing Barfi, Ranbir disclosed how he had tried quitting cigarettes, even going to the extent of using nicotine patches, but could not resist pressure. Even with his boy-next-door aura and fitness craze image, his smoking issue has continued to be a worrying factor among his fans.
3. Ajay Devgn
Well known for his raw appearances and rugged performances, Ajay Devgn is another such celebrity who’s a chain smoker. His smoking habit is no secret among people belonging to the film industry. With his smoking corner on the shoots or on location, Ajay has been caught by health officials in the past for smoking publicly. He is a health enthusiast and family man but is yet to give up this habit.
4. Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan, Bollywood’s Nawab, has also spoken of his smoking. Saif had a minor heart attack in the early 2000s which he subsequently admitted had been a wake-up call for his sick lifestyle. After this, he is said to have reduced his smoking but not eliminated it. With his royal background and high-flying lifestyle, Saif’s own addiction has largely been conspicuous by absence from his on-screen persona.
5. Hrithik Roshan
The name that enters as a shock to this roll call, Hrithik Roshan—widely considered one of Bollywood’s most healthy actors—has also fought a smoking habit. Admired for his rigorous fitness regimen, Hrithik showed that he had once been a chain smoker. However, the desire to kick the smoking habit hit him when he read Allen Carr’s book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. Hrithik is a good example of how one should leave addiction, and he has inspired others to leave smoking as well.
Influence and Responsibility
These stars, as powerful as they are, prove that there is no restriction on smoking and that it can attack anybody, popularity or wealth aside. Although some like Hrithik Roshan have managed to quit the habit, others remain addicted. The problem is due to the great influence such stars have over human actions, particularly the young generation.
Public health campaigners say that celebrities can do something good by quitting or not smoking, particularly considering how much of their lives are under the public eye. As role models to be followed, their influence will either reinforce poor habits or break them.
Bollywood stars, like everyone else, are not immune to the dangers and challenges of cigarette smoking. With their looks and stardom looking so dramatically on screen, too frequently reality behind the stars is in man’s weakness. The public must admire their performance and realize that decisions in life, particularly vices like smoking, cannot be replicated. Let us hope additional stars will follow the quit and utilize their influence on healthier living.
