In 2025 Indian cinema saw a great mix of stories, what we put to screen was brilliant and diverse. From historical to thriller we have it all which in turn was a treat for the audience.
List of 2025’s top 15 Indian films.
1. Chhaya (Hindi).
A historical actioner from Laxman Utekar which is “Chhaava” does indeed look at the story of Sambhaji Maharaj in this film. Starring Vicky Kaushal, Akshaye Khanna, and Rashmika Mandanna the movie which is a mix of grand scale and very personal emotion breaks box office records to become the year’s highest grosser with a revenue of over 800 crores.
2. Thuddaaram (Malayalam).
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, “Thudarum’’ which stars Mohanlal and Shobana. In a very complex plot that has gone on to earn the film a hit in the Malayalam film industry, they also managed to pull in over 114.80 crores in 25 days.
3. Sky Force in Hindi.

Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur present to us ‘Sky Force’ which is an action drama of India’s first airstrike in the 1965 Indo-Pak war. Akshay Kumar stars in this — which also has received praise for it’s intense tell — and the film went on to do very well at the global box office raking in 174.21 crores.
4. Sikandar (Hindi).
An action flick by AR Murugadoss, “Sikandar” stars Salman in a very dynamic role. Out for the Eid release the film which is a mix of action and dramatic elements did in about 177 crores at the box office.
5. Battle 2 (Hindi).
In 2019 we saw the release of the sequel to a hit film which was made by Ayan Mukerji and stars Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. As a part of the YRF Spy series which promises great action and an engaging story this film is also one of the most looked forward to of the year.
6. Diplomat (Hindi).
Shivam Nair has directed “The Diplomat, a political thriller which is based on the true story of Uzma Ahmed. The film features John Abraham and is about diplomacy and internal conflict which went on to earn over 53 crores at the global box office.
7. At Zero Hour.
In the directorate of Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar, “Ground Zero” is a film that is thriller and action genre which is basedon the incident that brought about the death of terrorist Ghazi Baba. Starring Emraan Hashmi, the movie puts forth the issues faced by the security forces and also presents actual events in their raw form.
8. Traveling With Family (Tamil).
A budget production which saw huge success after it was doctored by director S.S. Rajamouli “Tourist Family” is a hit for its great story. Out now on OTT the movie has become a sleeper hit of Tamil cinema.
9. Alpha in Hindi.
In the Alpha which is a work of Director and Writer Shiv Rawail that is also the first for YRF in the action thriller genre which also falls in the Spy Universe of the company. Also produced by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari the film which releases on the 25th of December is a treat of revolutionary action sequences and a very engaging story.
10. Devata (Hindi).
A cop thriller that is written and directed by Rosshan Andrrews which stars Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde. In terms of action, romance and drama the film is a great watch.
11. Cool boy (Tamil).
Starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna Akkineni, and Shruti Haasan “Coolie” is an action oriented film which had been very much looked forward to by fans. It’s release on May 1st also graced that year’s cine scene.
12. Thama Hindi.

Horror comedy from Aditya Sarpotdar which is “Thama” star-studded with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna. Out in November this film which also includes romance into the mix and thus gives a fresh take to the genre.
13. Emergency (Hindi) .
Directed by Kangana Ranaut who also stars in the film which tells the story of India’s Emergency in 1975. In it we see Ranaut play the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and present this very controversial time.
14. Jaat (Hindi).
Jaat which had issues with piracy did not do so well at the box office but we must note that it left a mark with its story and acting. Despite the problems it had, in 2025 it was put forth as a good contribution to Indian cinema.
15. Baghuni (Dance of the Tiger) (Odia).
Becoming the first ever Odia international co-production to screen at Cannes, “Baghuni” is directed by Jitendra Mishra. The movie which is based on issues of resistance and survival puts forward Odisha’s cultural heritage to the world.
