Early Life & Background

Born in May 2003, Gagan Raju Gowda is a native of Mangalore in India. From a young age, he had a sports-inclined personality, which saw him take part in many games while in school. Though he first took to volleyball, he soon found out that his true love was in kabaddi, which he threw himself into wholeheartedly. His rise from playing in local matches to the pro kabaddi stage is a story of great determination, discipline, and a very deep love for the game.

Physical Attributes

At 6’3” tall, Gagan stands out physically from the crowd in Kabaddi. His athletic build, along with that size, gives him that edge in performing hand touches and securing bonus points. Also, in a raid when that reach is needed, he is a tough out for the defenders, which also plays to his benefit.

Introduction to Kabaddi

Gagan began to take kabaddi seriously at the age of 13. Over the years, he improved his skills and also his fitness, which came from the instruction of local coaches. Though at age group competitions he had issues with weight, which is associated with his height, he didn’t drop out. His resilience made him stay true to his goal of doing great in professional kabaddi.

Career Highlights & Playing Style

Primarily a Right Raider, which is Gagan’s role, he brings to the game agility, strength and sharp instincts. He is inspired by a lineage of great Indian raiders, he has formulated his own style of riding with precision while utilizing explosive movement, which makes him a consistent threat to opposition defences.

In the Summer Edition 2023 of the Yuva Kabaddi Series, he had his breakthrough, in which he donned the black and gold of the Hampi Heroes. He scored 261 in raids, which included 16 Super Raids and 16 Super 10s, which in turn displayed his consistency and talent. That performance got him the recognition he deserved, which also resulted in his call-up to the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).

Picked up by the UP Yoddhas, Gagan made his entry in Season 10 of the PKL and has been with the team ever since, into Season 11. What is the proof of his growth? He has earned over 230 points in 31 matches, secured 10 Super 10s, and is at 74% not out. Also, he does it under pressure, which has made him one of the most promising young players in the league.

Current Status & Aspirations

As of 2025, Gagan is a mainstay of the UP Yoddhas team. With regular practice, health regimens and in the field, he is seeing him perfect his raid, which he plays. His aim is to become one of the best raiders in the PKL and, in turn, greatly contribute to his team’s performance. Gagan’s dedication and consistent progress indicate great things to come for him in Indian kabaddi.

Although exact financials are still unknown, out of all the revenue streams, PKG’s contract, match fees, and performance-based bonuses are what Gagan lives on. Also, as he grows in popularity and does amazing things in what he does, we expect that sponsorship deals will soon follow. At just 25 years old, his wallet is doing very well, and we see his earning power increase greatly in the coming years.

At the age of 22, Gagan Gowda has set the stage for himself as one of the top upcoming talents in kabaddi. He came out of Mangalore onto the Pro Kabaddi League stage, which is a story of what it takes: dedication, perseverance, and passion. With a physical presence, aggressive approach, and commitment to the sport, the young man is well on his way to being known in every home in India for his skills. While he is still in the beginning phase, what we know at present is enough of a tell that in the future, we will have a star player.
