Basil was born in Sulthan Bathery, in the Wayanad district of Kerala, on April 28, around 1989 or 1990.
He was born into a Christian family, the son of Joseph Pallippattu, a priest from the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, and Thankamma Joseph.He grew up with his sister, Shincy Joby.

Basil studied at St.
Joseph’s English Higher Secondary School in Sultan Bathery, where he was involved in sports, choir, and drama.He later studied for a B.Tech at the College of Engineering in Thiruvananthapuram.After finishing his degree, he started working at Infosys, a big software company.

Career
While working at Infosys, Basil made his first short film, “Priyamvadha Katharayano,” which got attention when he was just 22.
This encouraged him to leave his job at Infosys and focus on filmmaking.
He started as an assistant director on “Thira” (2013), and made his acting debut the same year in “Up & Down: Mukalil Oralundu.”
As a director, he has directed “Kunjiramayanam” (2015), “Godha” (2017), and “Minnal Murali” (2021).
