Apple is preparing to release its next big phone lineup, and Indian buyers who want to upgrade should know some important details before the phones are officially launched.
Launch Date: A September Debut, With a Twist
Apple is expected to show off the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max in a September 2026 event, continuing its usual fall launch pattern.
But this year is different: Apple might be splitting its phone lineup into two different seasons.Only the top models the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s rumored first foldable iPhone are expected to come out in the fall, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e will be released in spring 2027.The likely schedule includes a mid-September keynote, Friday pre-orders, and store availability about a week after that.
What’s New Under the Hood
The main upgrade is Apple’s new 2-nanometer A20 Pro chip, which is the most advanced chip they’ve made so far.
This should offer better performance and more efficient power use.The Pro Max model is also likely to feature Apple’s new C2 modem and a larger battery, possibly over 5,100mAh, for better battery life.
Design and Display Changes
Don’t expect a big change in design.
The Pro Max should keep the same triple-camera setup on top and a 6.9-inch screen size, though there are rumors that the Dynamic Island might be smaller, maybe even 30% narrower.Some suggest parts of the Face ID system could be under the screen.There are also rumors of a new LTPO+ display panel for smoother and more efficient screen refresh rates, and a slight change in the glass back around the camera area.
Camera Upgrades
Camera improvements continue to be a big focus.
There are talks about a better telephoto or periscope setup, a higher-resolution front camera for better selfies and Face ID accuracy, and possibly a variable-aperture lens for the main camera.
What Will It Cost in India?
Analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu expect Apple to maintain global pricing despite the costlier 2nm chip, keeping the starting price near the iPhone 17 Pro Max at about ₹1,34,900.
Analysts Navkendar Singh from IDC India and Tarun Pathak from Counterpoint expect the price to go up by $100 to $150 because the cost of memory is increasing and the value of the rupee is dropping.This could make the Pro Max more expensive than ₹1,49,900.
Some online stores have already shown prices as high as ₹1,69,990 for the 12GB+512GB model, showing that people expect the base price to be higher and that storage options will also cost more.
