He was born on 16 August 2001 in Almora, Uttarakhand, which makes him 25 in the 2026-27 season. He plays right-handed and stands 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in).
Family Background
Sen grew up around the sport. His grandfather, Chandra Lal Sen, and his father both played badminton, and his elder brother, Chirag Sen, is a professional player too. With that much badminton at home, it’s not surprising he picked up a racket early.
Training and Junior Years
He moved to the Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bengaluru, and his talent was obvious from a young age. In 2014 he won the Swiss Junior International. By February 2017 he was the world’s top-ranked junior singles player. Over the years he has worked with coaches including Yoo Yong-sung, Vimal Kumar, Prakash Padukone and Park Tae-sang.
Biggest Achievements
Sen’s senior career already has some big names on it:
- Bronze at the World Championships
- Gold at the Commonwealth Games
- Gold and bronze with India at the Thomas Cup
- A semifinal finish at the Paris Olympics
- The Arjuna Award
He was also part of the Indian team that took bronze at the 2026 Thomas Cup.
A Hard but Hopeful 2026
This year has had its ups and downs. Injuries and fitness problems kept him out of the top 10 for 440 days, and he finally got back in during May 2026, for the first time since March 2025.
Early November brought the best news of his season. He won the Hylo Open Super 500, beating Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the final. Afterwards he admitted that fitness trouble had hurt his results over the previous three to four months. His next goal is a top-eight place in the BWF World Tour rankings, which would get him into the season-ending World Tour Finals.
Rankings and Record
Sen’s career record is 237 wins and 130 losses. His best ranking is world No. 6, which he reached on 8 November 2022. The Hylo Open title moved him up from 14th to 13th.
What’s Next
A lot depends on his body. If he stays healthy and keeps playing regularly, a return to the top 10 looks realistic, and the Hylo Open win gives him some momentum going into 2027.
