Gujarat Titans (GT) Head Coach Ashish Nehra was all praise for the Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah, before the start of the IPL 2025 season. Nehra considered Bumrah as the “tsunami of T20” and said even if ₹520 crore could have been spent, it would not be enough for grabbing the best services of the Mumbai Indians’ ace bowler at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Ashish Nehra Lauds Best Bowler in India Jasprit Bumrah

Ashish Nehra lauds mental toughness of Jasprit Bumrah in death overs

Bumrah has been one of the consistent best bowling game changers for Team India, defining his role as the spearhead of the bowling. His most recent heroics were when he led India to triumph over Australia-a 295-run consecutive victory in the first test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy at Perth.

Playing under the leadership of stand-in-skipper Rohit Sharma, Bumrah was handed the captaincy mantle and delivered with a modest first-innings total of 150. The bowlers led by Rohit then proceeded to destroy Australia, thus marking their first win at the new Perth Stadium as they became the first side to defeat them at this venue.

Here is another example of how much worth Mumbai Indians place on a player like Bumrah at the dawn of the 2025 IPL – they retained him at a jaw-dropping 18 crores! Bumrah, who will be a key player in helping the five-time IPL champions shake off their periodic underperformance, brings with him experience as well as exceptionally rare skills that will nonetheless be crucial for the team’s performance. It must be noted, on the other hand, that, at age 30, the player continues to be a force on all formats of the game, effecting both the Mumbai Indians and the upcoming Indian side for their tour to Australia.

Following the IPL 2025 auction, Nehra, speaking to Star Sports, was effusive in his praise for Bumrah. “As a bowler, Jasprit Bumrah has delivered time and again. Captaining the team in the first match of the series, especially after a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand, is no easy task. Yet, the way Bumrah handled the pressure is nothing short of commendable,” Nehra said.

He further added, “If Bumrah had been part of the auction, the competition would have been unbelievable. Even with a purse of ₹520 crore, teams wouldn’t have been able to buy him. That’s how valuable he is.”
