Chamari Athapaththu is a famous left-handed batsman in women’s cricket, born on 9th February 1990 in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka. Currently, Chamari is unmarried, and there is no public information about her romantic life.
Athapaththu has played 95 Women’s One Day International (ODI) matches in her successful career, scoring 3199 runs in total. She has also played a significant role in various T20 cricket leagues around the globe. She played for Melbourne Renegades in the third edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She participated in 16 matches and scored a total of 196 runs, with a top score of 42. Athapaththu became the first batter to score a century in the tournament in Women’s Asia Cup 2024. On July 22, 2024, she scored an unbeaten 119 runs off just 69 balls against Malaysia, leading Sri Lanka to a commanding total of 184 runs.
Her leadership credentials were again verified when she led Sri Lanka to their first Women’s Asia Cup trophy on July 28, 2024. Against India in the finals, Athapaththu played a key knock of 61 runs off 43 balls and propelled her team to an eight-wicket win. The match saw a touching reunion when she hugged her ailing mother, who was there to watch her daughter’s triumph after being away because of health problems.
