Released on October 11, 2024, the action thriller Martin is in Kannada, and it has been directed by A.P. Arjun with Dhruva Sarja in two prominent roles. Though having great production and a mammoth star cast, the movie fails to meet its expectations on various aspects. Therefore, critics universally mock its inconsistent plot, high volume of action, and absence of emotional connection.

The film tracks the life of Arjun Saxena-an Indian Navy officer who becomes amnesiac after having been sedated in a Pakistani prison. In his attempt to escape and discover his identity, he becomes the prey of an unknown man named Martin. Following are confrontations that are meant to create tension and suspense, but end up being oppressive visual hallucinations and confused plot.
Everyone has been critical of the view that Martin lacks charisma. The Hindu called it an “ambitious action-thriller” marred by “flashy execution” and a “messy script.” Pinkvilla termed it a “new version of action movies” burdened with an “insubstantial storyline” and cringe-worthy dialogues, which also implied that the movie was written just for the entertainment of Dhruva Sarja fans. The Times of India mentioned how at the cost of emotion, the film opted for “loud and in-your-face” scenes that did not make a true impact. Almost in the same vein, Deccan Herald commented on the film’s unbalanced rudder with its stunning visuals taking the overdrive while character sketch and lucidity in the narrative took a back seat.
Martin tried to be a tough, intense ride but collapsed under the pressure of its own hype. Though it could keep a few of Dhruva Sarja’s die-hard fans engaged, the movie lacks much for those looking for substantial stories or emotional connections. It is a reminder of how action without substance can create a quite shallow and exhausting experience at the cinema.
