Jayaram Subramaniam (usually just “Jayaram” for, you know, obvious reasons) popped out into this world on December 10, 1965, in Perumbavoor, Kerala. Classic Kerala guy, but with a bit of a Tamil twist: his dad, Subramaniyam, was originally from Palakkad, and his mom, Thankam, hailed from Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. Bit of a pan-South Indian flavour in the family tree. He had an older brother, Venkataram, who sadly didn’t make it past childhood, and he has a younger sis called Manjula.

Kid days? He did the usual—Government Boys High School in Perumbavoor, then wound up at Sree Sankara College in Kalady. Nothing too wild there. Before the movie bug bit him, Jayaram was hustling as a medical rep (imagine him in pharma sales, right?), and on the side, he got deep into mimicry with the Kalabhavan crowd. That whole mimicry scene in Kerala? Yeah, he was all in.

Physically, the guy’s roughly 5’9” (or, if you’re into centimetres, about 175 cm). His weight? Depends on who you ask—call it around 80 kilos, give or take a few biryanis.

Let’s talk fam: Jayaram tied the knot with actress Parvathy in ‘92. That’s one of those classic movie couples, honestly. They’ve got two kids: Kalidas (who’s already a National Award-winning actor himself, no big deal) and Malavika. These days, the whole gang mostly hangs out in Chennai, but Jayaram’s heart is still pretty much rooted in Kerala.

Now, career-wise—this guy’s put in some serious mileage. Debuted in 1988 with Aparan (Padmarajan was calling the shots), and after that, he basically never stopped. Over 200 films, all across the South—Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, you name it. Early on, he nailed those comedy and family drama roles, but he’s not afraid of the emotionally heavy stuff or quirky characters either. Some movies that really popped: Thooval Kottaram, Summer in Bethlehem, Friends, Veruthe Oru Bharya, Panchavarnathatha, and that’s just the Malayalam batch. Tamil side? Thenali, Panchathanthiram, Thuppakki, Uttama Villain, and the big Ponniyin Selvan epics more recently. The guy’s everywhere.

And hey, he’s not just popping up in films—he’s racked up a trophy shelf too. The Padma Shri in 2011 (which is no joke in India), Kerala State Film Awards, Filmfares, and the works.

Money talk? Always a guessing game. Some say he’s worth $9-10 million, others (who’ve maybe been sipping something strong) throw around $15 million. Realistically? Probably somewhere in the middle, like $10-15 million, depending on how many houses, cars, and secret investments he’s got stashed away. That’s roughly ₹80-120 crore, if you wanna do the math.

A few fun nuggets: Jayaram’s a legit chenda player (that’s the big, loud drum you hear at Kerala temple festivals) and he’s actually performed at festivals, not just in movies. His mimicry skills? That’s what got him started and probably why he’s so good at switching up expressions on screen.
