In 2025, the Lanka Premier League (LPL) is set to make a return, which is sure to bring back the cricket action that has made fans’ hearts sing. Since the inception of the tournament, we have seen it grow into a preeminent T20 league in the South Asian region, which also has a reputation for bringing out the best in home talent and, at the same time, bringing in the world’s best players. The 2025 season, which is also put forward as the 1xBet LPL 2025, is to be the most competitive to date. We are looking at high-stakes games, iconic venues and a do-or-die match-up schedule.

Participating Teams and Squads

In 2025, we see a large field of teams that put forward representatives from key cities in Sri Lanka. We have had very competitive runs in the history of this competition, which I am to report is also the case this year. The confirmed teams that are going at it for the title are:

Jaffna Kings: The Kings come in as the dominant force of the league’s history. They are also the current champions. Under Charith Asalanka, they have power hitters like Kusal Mendis and Rilee Rossouw in addition to the bowling skills of Jason Behrendorff.

Galle Marvels: Last year’s runners-up, the Marvels, are led by Niroshan Dickwella. To the team’s roster of international stars, we see the return of Alex Hales and Tim Seifert, which is also the debut of spin specialist Maheesh Theekshana.

Colombo Strikers: Representing the capital, they are led by the veteran Thisara Perera. The team has secured great overseas talent like Shadab Khan and Glenn Phillips to go along with local stars like Matheesha Pathirana.

Kandy Falcons: Captain of the team, which is that of the world’s best all-rounders in Wanindu Hasaranga, the Falcons also have a great mix of players, which includes Angelo Mathews and Andre Fletcher.

Dambulla Sixers: With Captain Mohammad Nabi at the head, the Sixers have brought in fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman and dangerous batters like Mark Chapman and Kusal Perera.

Venues

The event will be held in what are known to be three of Sri Lanka’s preeminent international cricket stadiums. At these venues, which are famous for their charged atmosphere and pitch conditions, which in turn present great settings for T20 cricket.

  • R. Premadasa Stadium (Colombo): This historic ground, which has a capacity of 35,000, will stage the grand final and play-off matches.
  • Pallekele International Cricket Stadium (Kandy): In a beautiful setting that is to die for, the stadium, which has a capacity of 35,000, will host the opening match of the tournament.
  • Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium (Dambulla): This stadium, which has a capacity of 16,800, will be the stage for mid-tournament games.

LPL 2025 Schedule and Time Table

LPL in 2025 will see action begin at the end of November, which then goes on for a full month of cricket. This season will feature a double round robin, which in turn sees our teams play each other twice before we see the pressure-filled playoffs.

Key Fixtures:

  • Tournament Opener: In 2025, at Pallekele, the action opens with a match between Kandy Falcons and Dambulla Sixers.
  • Group Stage: Matches will see rotation between Pallekele and Dambulla before we go to Colombo for the final stage. As for which ones to watch out for, the Galle Marvels vs. Jaffna Kings is on the 28th of November, and the Colombo Strikers go head to head with the Galle Marvels on the 3rd of December.
  • Playoffs: In 2025, the action of the business side of the tournament gets underway on December 18, which is for Qualifier 1 and Eliminator 1 in Colombo.
  • The Final: On December 23, 2025, the top two teams will play for the title at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Points Table and Format

In the path to the playoffs, teams use the Points Table, which is the determinant. Teams gain points for wins, and at the end of the season, the top four will progress.

  • Win: Teams award points for a win (usually 2 points).
  • No Result/Tie: In case of abandoned matches, points are shared.
  • Net Run Rate (NRR): At which point does this come into play for teams that finish level in points?

As the season gets underway, all five teams, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, Colombo Strikers, Kandy Falcons, and Dambulla Sixers, take to the field with the same record of zero points. Spectators will have their eyes on the NRR, which in many a tight season is the decider for the last playoff spot.

Conclusion

LPL 2025 is looking to be a fantastic event on the global cricket stage. We see a mix of experienced players and up-and-coming talents, world-class venues, and a very well-thought-out schedule, which sets the stage for a month of very high-energy action. If you are a fan of the defending champions, Jaffna Kings, or the teams that are challenging them, the run-up to the final on December 23rd is not to be missed.
