In India’s governance structure, the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) is the steel frame, which is made up of high calibre, integrity and dedication. In that group of young and dynamic officers who are doing great today is Veditha Reddy. A 2015 batch officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) cadre, Veditha Reddy, has carved out an identity for herself through her administrative skill and public service commitment. By 2025, she had taken on very key roles, and she is presently in the post of Director of the Education Department in Delhi.

Early Life and Educational Background

Born on December 23, 1991, in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, Veditha Reddy grew up in a home that valued public service and discipline. Her father, Reddy Nagabhushan Rao, was a Forest Officer in Karnataka, and her mother, Reddy Shanthi Kumari, was a prominent political figure who held the post of YSRCP District President for Srikakulam. This political and administrative exposure at home likely shaped her career path.

Veditha’s background is one that sees a shift between many cultural settings. She spent her formative years in Dharmanagar, but at an early age, the family moved to the national capital for her secondary and higher secondary education, which she spent at the very fine institution of Sanskriti Vidhyalaya in Delhi. She went on to get a B.Tech in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from a preeminent college in Noida. Although she is an engineer by degree, what Veditha truly wanted to do was join the civil services.

Veditha Reddy’s success story of becoming an IAS officer is a picture of her focus and determination. At 23, she cracked the very competitive Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Exam in her second try. Also, she secured an All India Rank of 71, which proved her academic brilliance.

For the exam that Veditha took, it was Anthro, which she chose as her option, and that proved to be a very wise decision. She scored a total of 962, which broke down to 797 in the written paper and 165 in the personality test (interview). Her achievement is an inspiration to many who attempt the exam, as with the right approach and persistence, early success is achievable.

Career and Professional Trajectory

Since upon entry into the service as a part of the 2015 batch, Veditha Reddy has held many key administrative posts. Her cadre AGMUT has put her in many different and challenging settings. Early in her career, she took on the role of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in the Revenue Department, which saw her handle what proved to be very critical administrative and land-related issues.

At present, she is the head of the Education Department in Delhi. In that role, which is of great responsibility, we see the Delhi government’s intense push for educational reform. In this role, she is in charge of policy development, which also includes the rollout of educational programs, and we see in her time thus far a drive toward large-scale improvements in the quality of education in the region. Also noted is her dedication to bringing about transformational changes that better the lot of students and the community at large.

Personal Life: Wife and family.

Veditha Reddy does what it takes to maintain her professional life, which at the same time is very personal. She is married to Ruchit Ralli. Her family is the support structure to which she is very much tied; her parents, in particular, are still very much into the service of society. From what it looks like, her family’s strong support has played a role in how she, in turn, handles the pressures of high office with grace and efficiency.

While it is not the norm to have civil servants’ net worth out in the open as it is with business tycoons, Veditha Reddy’s financial situation is a matter of the pay scale that IAS officers fit into. As a 2015 batch officer, she will have 2025 put in almost a decade, which should place her in the top brackets of the pay matrix (likely Junior Administrative Grade or Selection Grade).

IAS officers of this group draw what the 7th Pay Commission prescribes, which is a large basic pay along with allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) and Travel Allowance (TA). Also, officers are provided government accommodation, official vehicles and other perks which greatly improve their quality of life and financial security. While we can’t put a precise “net worth” on her, her status puts her in an upper-middle-class financial standing, which is what one would expect at her Grade A officer level.

Veditha Reddy IAS is part of a new breed of civil servants who have a technical background as well as administrative empathy. Born in Srikakulam and now leading educational reforms in Delhi, her journey is one of continuous growth and service. As she rises in the ranks of the service, her work, which is improving the lives of citizens, also grows, thus fulfilling the true purpose of the Indian Administrative Service.
