Right now, Tilak Varma stands out as one of India’s brightest young cricket talents. Born in Hyderabad on November 8, 2002, he’ll turn 23 in 2026. What really sets him apart? He bats fearlessly, keeps his cool when the pressure’s on, and delivers whether he’s playing at home or on the international stage. People are already starting to remember his name.

He grew up in a middle-class Telugu family. His dad, Namboori Nagaraju Varma, worked as an electrician, while his mom, Gayatri Devi, managed the home. Tilak has an older brother, Tarun, and together, the family always backed his cricket dreams. As a kid, he loved playing tennis-ball cricket around the neighbourhood. Everything changed when coach Salam Bayash spotted him at 11. That’s when his real training began,n and cricket started turning from a hobby into something much bigger.

School for Tilak meant Crescent Model English School and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Hyderabad. Later, he joined Lepakshi Junior College and then enrolled at Andhra University for a BBA. But honestly, cricket took over—studies never stood a chance with all the matches and practice.

His career really kicked off when he debuted for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy at just 16. Soon, he was playing in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments, where he started building his rep as a serious talent. The big leap came when the Mumbai Indians picked him up at the 2022 IPL auction for ₹1.7 crore. His bold strokeplay and cool demeanour made him a key player, and the franchise kept him on, upping his contract to ₹8 crore before IPL 2025 and sticking with him through 2026.

In a T20I against the West Indies in August 2023, Tilak made his debut for his country by hitting 39 off 22 balls. He quickly established himself as a mainstay in India’s short-format teams. One of his early highlights? A streak of T20I hundreds, including an unbeaten 107 against South Africa—a run that turned heads and confirmed him as one of India’s best young batsmen. He even chips in with some off-spin and is a sharp fielder too.

Off the pitch, Tilak keeps things simple. He’s single, and as of 2026, there’s no word about a girlfriend or any romantic stuff. Tilak likes to keep that part of his life private and puts his energy into cricket. He’s close to his family and sometimes shares glimpses of his training or home life with fans, but he never overshares.

When it comes to money, Tilak’s in a good place. By 2026, his net worthwill bes somewhere between ₹15 and 25 crore (which is around $1.8–3 million USD). Most of that comes from his IPL salary, his BCCI contract, match fees, and a bunch of brand partnerships. His IPL salary alone is ₹8 crore, plus he has a Grade C BCCI contract and deals with brands like Boost, SS, Birla Opus, and Dream11. He’s bought himself a multi-story house in Hyderabad and drives both a Mercedes S-Class and a BMW 7 Series—just a couple of ways cricket’s changed his life.
