Tina Dabi was born on November 9, 1993, in Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh and is a notable Indian Administrative Service officer with extraordinarily achieved results. She became a household name by being the best performer among all her peers in the UPSC Civil Services Examination at age 22 in the year 2015, and she was the first woman from Scheduled Caste to hold this honor.
Early Life and Education
Tina hails from a civil servant family. His father, Jaswant Dabi, general manager of BSNL, and her mother, Himani Dabi, an officer of the Indian Engineering Services, also have a younger sister, Ria Dabi, who joined the IAS in 2021.
Initially, she attended Carmel Convent School in Bhopal. Later, when she came to Delhi in 2005, she continued her schooling at the Convent of Jesus and Mary School. Top scorer, she scored a perfect 100 in both Political Science and History. She took admission in Lady Shri Ram College for Women, University of Delhi for a Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science and began to prepare for the UPSC during her first year.
UPSC Journey and Career
It was a long and arduous journey from there to coming out as the topper at the UPSC Civil Services Examination in 2015. This motivated a lot of youth and women, especially those from the underprivileged sections. The Rajasthan cadre was assigned to her, and she completed her training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. In 2017, she took up her post as the Assistant Collector in Ajmer of Rajasthan. Thereafter, she worked as a Sub-Divisional Officer in Bhilwara and then the Chief Executive Officer of Zila Parishad in Sri Ganganagar. In July 2022, Tina was appointed as the District Collector and Magistrate of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, and later served as the District Collector of Barmer.
Personal Life
Public interest has accompanied Tina’s personal life. She married fellow IAS officer Athar Amir Khan in 2018, who was the second rank holder in the UPSC examination of 2015, but the marriage ended in divorce in 2021. In April 2022, Tina wed Dr. Pradeep Gawande, an IAS officer from Rajasthan, and their wedding was celebrated with a reception in Jaipur.
Current Affairs
Tina and Pradeep became proud parents to a son in September 2023, in Jaisalmer. In 2024, she continues to pride herself in keeping the torch of public service and administrative excellence as the District Collector of Barmer, Rajasthan.
She shows us the way of a dedicated, resilient, and even breaking the chains of society from a young girl to leading an IAS officer: not the least, it instils motivation into millions across the country.
